My Home for Christmas....
Originating from New York where the city itself feels like the perfect destination for Christmas this time of year, it was a hard adjustment getting into the holiday spirit in Florida. Going from snowmen to sandcastles and replacing hot cocoa for iced coffees, it seemed like the excitement for a true Christmas was no longer an idea in the sunshine state. However, despite trading 4 seasons to 1, my mother has always made sure our home felt like Christmas.
In times of struggle, no matter the predicament, she always made sure there was a tree beautifully decorated, Christmas songs constantly played (with the occasional Marc Anthony songs on shuffle), and Christmas activities to be done. My mother and I always made it a vital point to make sure this time of year felt just as special as the Christmases in New York.
(p.s. Christmases in New York are incomparable as they are anywhere else…guarantee)
As an adult, it tends to get harder to get into the spirit of Christmas than it used to be as a child. I remember as a kid being surrounded by so many people I barely knew, dancing to music I didn’t understand, hearing the sound of laughter, and eating endless Spanish food that later became leftovers for the following 2 weeks. Although so much time has passed since those times, I always remembered the feeling I had growing up to that.
Now that things are different, I wouldn’t trade it for the way things are now. Not because I’m getting older and don’t care for those times, but because Christmas is simply that. The feeling you get this time of year. It is the happiness, the laughter, the joy, and the giddiness, which is what makes the holidays so special.
This year my mother did an amazing job making our home feel welcomed, special, and festive and I hope your homes are the same. I hope this Christmas you all are safe, loved, and happy. I pray that you keep your sanity around crazy family, finish your glass of wine with laughter, and that ugly ass gift your aunt gave you has a gift receipt.
Thank you all so much for keeping up with my blog this far and supporting my writing. That is the greatest gift you all could’ve given me this year. I wish you all a beautiful, loving, and very very Merry Christmas!
