Beauty in Malibu | Wine Safari Tour & The Beach
*Que the Miley Cyrus Song*
Long before I ever decided to come to California I always knew Malibu would be part of the places I would visit. Not to sound cliché, but I blame the show Two and Half Men.
Thanks to my best friend Alex and her obsession with celebrities and what they do on their spare time, she booked us a reservation at the Malibu Wine Safari Tour. Now, this such tour would include 6 tastings of their top bottles of wine and interaction with their animals. We were honored to meet and greet Zabrina the zebra, Stanley the giraffe, Kendrick Llama, and more wonderful animals. We were all so excited for the experience, especially me for the wine, I barely contained myself when we arrived. Lucky for me, my friends don’t drink wine, so you bet that for every tasting we received, they were pouring their portions into my wine glass. Without realizing it, until someone had said it, it was Wednesday. It’s safe to say, after feeling like it was time to turn up with a little Wine Wednesday, I got a little drunk.
We were escorted to the jeep where the safari would start and then were guided up the mountains to the vineyards. I have never seen anything so beautiful. The weather was a little crisp and the breeze lightly passed through the hills. The sun was shining and the mountains seemed like waves of vineyards, dipping and curving through the horizon. It felt so relaxing and refreshing to be so far away from the traffic and loud noises of the city.
After a round of white wine we were taken to the llamas and zebras. Just a heads up in case you ever go on this tour, watch out for both of these animals. I always thought llamas and zebras would be gentle majestic creatures that frolic amongst the field. Well my friend, hold a piece of lettuce in front of one and they will come for you full force and agro. Just be careful.
My favorite part of the wine tour, aside from the red wine, was feeding the giraffe, Stanley. Stanley is a retired movie star who is famously known for his role in Hangover 3. He now lives his best life on the vineyard receiving loads of attention, lettuce, and love from guests. He is single ladies and apparently is on Tinder, so if you’re interested swipe right. All jokes aside, he was the sweetest boy who even let me pet his nose.
I would recommend anyone who found themselves in Malibu to take the tour. It’s the perfect way to spend the afternoon and have a relaxing time. Drinking wine, petting and feeding exotic animals? Yeah, I wouldn’t mind doing that next Wednesday.
After the wine tour, we drove down the coast and admired the water. We parked by the pier and sat on the rocks and just absorbed the breeze, the smell of the ocean, and the beautiful houses on the sand. We later found ourselves in a seafood spot and ate delicious fried shrimp, clams, scallops, calamari and fish. Malibu stole Alex’s heart, and Kiki was in awe of the mountains being so closely exposed by the beach. I loved the day itself and felt extremely grateful for the experience. I would definitely find myself under the blue skies in Malibu…again.
